User Reviews about Petsafe SD-400S Sportdog Field Trainer - Stubborn
I've had a few training collars in the past and NOTHING even came close to this one. Just the fact that you can re-charge it every night is such a plus. The range is outstanding for the price. When and if this one fails, or gets broken, I will buy another. Training/shock collars are not for everyone, or every dog, but if used properly they are unmatched in taming strong willed personalities. Sure helps with my sanity having my Boxer with me every day.The "Stubborn Dog" model is probably not needed for 95% of people, as just on level 2 sometimes I'll get a yelp out of my 85lb blockhead, so I find myself on Level 1 most often. -- Such a nice product!
This product is a lifesaver! My Sheltie (7-year old) is a stubborn dog that barks a lot whenever anyone enters or leaves my house. He also barks when we clap hands (no birthday parties allowed!), or cough, os sneeze, or kiss someone. He simply doesn't like any high pitch noise, nor people in transit... :-) I trained him with books, CDs, I used water spray, I used "sound collar for bark control", with no longt-term results. He got accustomed with all those methods, and resumed barking and rushing in a few days.
Well... NOT with this collar! I'm training him for 3 weeks now, and from day 5, I didn't have to push the shock button anymore! Besides, even when I push the buzz button, it's because he shows the "Intention" to start barking. He no longer rushes to the front door when people get in or out, nor he barks and jumps with all the noises he used to (claps, kisses, coughs etc.) I think when I complete 4-6 weeks he will be completely trained...
And all I did was the basic trick: first the buzzer, followed by the shock. Then, a few days later, I just pushed the buzzer, and he stops imediately.
AMAZING PRODUCT, if you know how to use it!
BTW, it's a well-built device too. -- Great "last resort" product for my dog!
This did the job, JoJo is a differnt pup when I put this on him He listens to me and wife(she did not like the idea of getting this had to tell her she could shock me frist 1 was not bad for me or Jo but 2 I dropped it I use the tone more then anything unless Jo dosent listen and he knows after a shock he should not be doing what he is doing, like running to the hwy or after people great training collar -- best money spent
This collar is the best thing I EVER bought my mother. She has a 7 year old Labrador retriever, which I also bought her (at 10 weeks old). She is adorable and smart but bullheaded and difficult to train. (the dog...but, eh, my mom too!) She actually was kicked out of obedience school. My mom couldn't let her off the leash in the backyard because she would just run and not come back. Basic commands were fine and she clearly understands what she is supposed to do but just refused to do it. ANYWAY, it took a day and she was a different dog. Keep in mind this shouldn't be used as a cruelty and I hate to think that people would EVER use it irresponsibly, but if you are looking at a system like this one, then you are already considering it. This system works well. It is easy to use and set up (my mom had no trouble setting it up and using it by herself.) I obviously haven't used other brands but my sister has one as well for her dog and she bought it at Walmart I think. Same brand but not as good. And she spend more than this price.
If you don't believe me. My mom told me yesterday, "It was the best thing I ever bought for her!" -- Gift for my mom and a stubborn dog.
