We have a 6 pound Papillon with a very small neck. I can put my thumb and middle finger completely around her neck (maybe 8" circumference). I originally ordered the Innotek Lap Dog collar, but it had TERRIBLE reception and performed very poorly. So I returned that collar and replaced it with this one.
I was a little hesitant to order this collar because another reviewer said that it couldn't be used with a dog whose neck was smaller than 15". However, that's simply NOT true. It's a little bulky on our tiny Papillon, but she CAN wear it. You have to feed the section of the strap that contains the antenna through the plastic buckle, but that hasn't caused any problems. So in my experience, you can use this collar on a dog with an 8" neck (and I can't imagine too many dogs have necks smaller than that).
As for the receiver/transmitter, I haven't tested the maximum range, but it's able to go MUCH further than the Innotek Lap Dog collar -- AND through walls, which is a huge improvement. The on/off switch for the receiver is also much nicer. This one has a push button on the OUTSIDE of the receiver, which makes it easy to turn on and off.
The transmitter is a little smaller than I expected and has a nice matte finish which feels good in the hand. It has an external antenna as you can see in the pictures. I don't know if it could snap off if you put it in your pocket and stressed it too much. However, it feels pretty solid. And it comes with a strap so you can hang it around your neck which I find pretty convenient.
All in all, we're much happier with this collar -- even on a very small dog. -- It CAN be used on dogs with small necks
So far this product is working just how the description states. I have only been putting it on my dog when she goes outside, which are the times when she does the behavior I want to correct. I think I'm getting more out of the battery life because I'm not leaving it turned on all of the time. The product was packed very well. The only negative I have: I selected and paid for two-day shipping, the product arrived in four business days. I'm not too thrilled that I paid for two-day shipping and received less for my money, I wouldn't buy from this seller again because of this reason. -- So far so good
I rescued a Coon Hound from a logging chain. I was totally against a "Shock Collar". I was in desperate need to keep her safe. If a wild animal got in my fenced yard she would dig out to go after it and I could not hold her back. I tried #2 on the schock level, she noticed but kept digging, then I tried #4 and she came thru the Palm Fronds about 3 ft high. I felt bad for shocking her but now she comes when she hears the beep. -- It works!
I have a pitbull and wanted to make sure that she had no issues. I have an unfenced yard that she never leaves even when she is unattended. She never bites and doesn't even play bite. I have a 3 month old son so this was important. I can walk her in the dog park without a leash. She listens to all my commands. Can I contribute all of this to the collar? Probably not, but it also comes with a basic training book as well. Just remember to be consistent, use the same command phrases as all people in the household and when the dog is on the leash don't let it walk you. Keep the dog close and behind you if he tries to pull. The batteries die off fast. -- Worked for my pitbull after only minor use
